Priley Riley, Bookbinding, 19th February 2014

I was shown different methods of bookbinding today and chose to try a method myself called Japanese bookbinding. I chose this method over the others simply because I think that the outcome looks the nicest. I found bookbinding an enjoyable process although it was very long; I spent around 4 hours in total making my new sketchbook because I had to pierce several holes in every piece of paper in the book and make sure that the holes were in exactly the same places on every page so that the alignment of the pages was correct. I pierced just 2 pages at a time so that the piercings were neat. I then used the holes to sew the book together. Once I had sewn the book, I finished off by using two of the holes to decorate the book with ribbon. I intend on trying papermaking this month and once I have done this I will bind this into a book so that the resulting sketchbook will be one that I made from scratch.
