Priley Riley, Collagraph prints, 7th, 24th and 26th of February 2014

To make collagraph prints I drew onto card and added PVA glue to the parts of the drawing that I wanted to print. I then poured carborundum over the glue and left this to dry (I did these stages on the 7th of February 2014). Once dry, I varnished the piece four times. I then produced prints from it on the 24th of February and today using a hydraulic press. I prefer the other printing methods that I have tried to collagraph printing because collagraph prints are not as detailed and they produce prints in just two colours; this combination has made the subject of my prints less recognisable. Because of this, I have included the photo that I worked from below as well as one of my collagraph prints above.

Priley Riley, Hair studies 3, 26th February 2014

These pencil studies are of my family’s hair (the top left is my brother’s, top right my mum’s, and bottom left my sister’s). I didn’t include the faces in any of my hair studies because I wanted the focus to be on the hair. These are my final studies on individual features of the face and head.

These hair studies were drawn in pencil from photos of my fiancé.

Priley Riley, Hair studies 1 update, 25th February 2014

On the 22nd of February 2014 I had over 13 inches of my hair cut off and donated to a charity called the Little Princess Trust. This charity provides real-hair wigs, free of charge, to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland that have lost their own hair through cancer treatment. Because of this I decided to update my post Hair studies 1, which was based on my hair before it was cut. The photo above shows me holding my hair donation and my updated sketches are below and show my hair just before and just after it was cut.

Priley Riley, Screen prints, 21st February 2014

I first tried screen printing in 2012 and two of these screen prints were exhibited at The Capitol Theatre in West Sussex (photos of this are shown above). My screen prints were also used as a design for t-shirts that were sold to raise money for the Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice. Today I did screen printing again for my second time, but instead of printing a photo (the more common way to screen print, and the way that I used in 2012) I drew a template for the screen and printed this. Although this way produces art that is more abstract, I wanted to try screen printing in a way that I hadn’t done before. Photos of today’s screen prints are shown below and are of the life drawing model that I drew on the 19th of February.

Priley Riley, Monoprints, 21st February 2014

Today I did monoprinting, screen printing and was shown how to do make vinyl rubber moulds from objects. The photos above show two of today’s monoprints. I used a particularly thin layer of printing ink for all of the monoprints to make them slightly more subtle than the ones that I did on the 17th of February. I worked from some of my most recent life drawings for them.

Priley Riley, Hair studies 1, 20th February 2014

These pencil studies are of my hair, although I worked from photos for them instead of a mirror in order to draw my hair from different angles.
